Courageous Kids and Young People
A safe, supportive space for children and young people to explore their emotions, experiences, and relationships in ways that work for them.
Children and young people do not always have the words to explain what is happening for them. Worry, frustration, sadness, or feeling overwhelmed can instead show up through behaviour, withdrawal, difficulties at school or changes in relationships.
At Courageous Being, counselling is tailored to each child’s age, developmental needs and individual way of communicating. Sessions may include conversation, play, games, creative activities, movement, and practical strategies, allowing the young person to engage without the expectation that they simply sit and talk.
We approach each child with curiosity about their individual experience, recognising that thoughts, feelings, and needs can be expressed in many different ways. Counselling provides a space to explore what is happening in their world, strengthen emotional understanding and develop strategies and skills that support them in ways that feel meaningful and achievable.
Our approach is neurodiversity-affirming and recognises that there is no single “right” way for a child to think, communicate, regulate or experience their world. Rather than expecting a child to fit the therapy, we adapt the therapy to the child.
Courageous Being can support children and young people with:
Anxiety, worry and big emotions
Emotional regulation
ADHD, autism and neurodivergence
School difficulties and school avoidance
Friendships and peer relationships
Family separation, change and transitions
Grief and loss
Confidence and self-esteem
Communication and expression of emotions
Feeling different, misunderstood or unsure of where they belong.
Julie provides in-person counselling for children and young people ages 6-17, with online counselling available from age 11 where telehealth is appropriate.
